So I’m sure most of you have heard or were wondering about the fight Mayday got into in Austin, Texas super late that night after the show. We’re not really sure how it started but we sort of pieced it all together somehow through everyone’s stories. It all started when some punk rock kids were…

Buck Owens - Memphis
from I’ve Got a Tiger By the Tail (1965)

I’ve had Buck Owens bouncing around in my bones for the last week straight, and if this song doesn’t make you a convert, nothing will. The Buckaroos are a tight, tight band, and they make every upbeat count here, setting a lock-step pace that surges along, carrying you forward like a wave and setting you down two and a half minutes later. The hook — well, this song is all hook. The lyrics are a slow reveal, playing with our assumptions about who “Marie” is before finally letting us in on the whole story in the very last verse. Buck Owens is one of the biggest country stars to be virtually unknown among the public at large — hard to believe, because this song makes me want to shout his name from the rooftops.

ALL THE WORLD’S A STAGE

by Erin Crumpacker

There’s nothing seemingly magical about the way I discovered Stardust Memories. Like many film junkies before me, I found the DVD placed between a few beloved titles on the shelf of the Woody Allen section at my local video store in West…

dealbreaker:

We Work Together
Office romance, how I love thee! Let me count the ways! The way your hair shimmers under the flourescent lights. The way you laughed when I made you a crown out of paperclips and dubbed you “The Queen of the Supply Closet.” The way you saved every Dilbert cartoon I ever left in your cubicle. The way our hands touched at the copier one fateful Monday. The way we made sweet love under the executive boardroom conference table. The way we swore that this wouldn’t interfere with our jobs. The way things got weird when I brought a date to the Christmas Holiday party. The way you denied my vacation request. The way you bugged my business cell phone. The way you told everyone I was impotent at the corporate retreat (we both know I’m not).
The way I’m REALLY considering applying for a job transfer.
